Tuesdays are for tacos.
We rarely skip our Taco Tuesday ritual. Even on vacation we find a way to stick to our tradition and enjoy our favorite Mexican-style meal.
Growing up, my idea of a taco was the classic crunchy shell filled with seasoned ground beef, iceberg lettuce, tomato, shredded cheddar, and sour cream. After moving to North Carolina I discovered many delicious versions I’d never tried before — and my clear favorite became fish tacos.
If the idea of fish tacos makes you skeptical, it likely means you haven’t had a great one. Fish tacos are surprisingly versatile: they can be sweet and spicy, charred and smoky, or simply bright and fresh. Some versions are elaborate, with deep-fried fillets and complex slaws, but these Easy Fish Tacos With Jalapeño Brisling Sardines are effortless and ready in about 15 minutes.

Sardine purists, rejoice!
Many sardine fans prefer to enjoy these small fish simply — on crackers or with a squeeze of hot sauce — to preserve their flavor. This recipe celebrates that simplicity while adding complementary elements that enhance, not overpower, the sardines. The jalapeño-packed sardines remain front and center, paired with an optional cumin-spiced sour cream and creamy avocado for balance.

Heart-healthy tacos
These tacos are a healthier alternative to deep-fried fish tacos. The sardines need no cooking and deliver significant nutritional benefits: they’re rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, vitamin D, selenium, and calcium. Choosing sardines is also an environmentally conscious option — they are a sustainable, abundant species with relatively low contaminant levels.

Why King Oscar Brisling Sardines with Hot Jalapeño Peppers
The first time I opened a can of these jalapeño-spiked brisling sardines I immediately thought: tacos. They’re oak-wood smoked, wild-caught, hand-packed, and kosher-certified. The jalapeños in the can bring a lively heat that makes assembly quick — no extra cooking required.
