Merry Christmas from my family to yours. I hope your holiday season is filled with the good kind of chaos: warm meals, too many desserts, cozy conversations, and at least a few quiet moments where everyone actually sits down at the same time. Of course, if we are being completely honest, Christmas can also come with stress eating, last-minute errands, traffic, overpacked schedules, and the occasional reminder that the holidays can bring out the most dramatic version of absolutely everyone. Mike has informed me that those are not the cheerful holiday details we are supposed to lead with, so let me try again: may you spend this special time relaxing, laughing, eating, drinking, and enjoying the people you love most.
The holidays always seem to arrive faster than expected. One minute we are thinking we have plenty of time to get everything done, and the next minute we are wondering how the calendar filled up, how the gifts still need wrapping, and why everyone suddenly needs matching outfits, clean socks, and a decent smile for family photos. Still, somewhere in the middle of the rushing around, there is a sweetness to it all. Christmas has a way of making us pause, look around, and appreciate the people standing next to us, even if they are asking where their shoes are five minutes before we need to leave.
Now, for your viewing and harmless snooping pleasure, I present a few of our family holiday photos. I love having these pictures because they capture a season of life exactly as it is: a little messy, a little funny, and full of personality. Family pictures are never just about everyone looking at the camera. They are about the expressions, the tiny moments, the almost-smiles, the real smiles, and the proof that we were all together in one frame, even if only for a second.

This year’s Christmas family photos felt like a success, which is not something I say lightly. Anyone who has ever tried to coordinate a family photo session knows that success is measured in small miracles. Did everyone show up? Did anyone blink in every single picture? Did the outfits mostly work together? Did someone decide at the last possible second that smiling was no longer part of their personal brand? These are the real questions behind every polished family portrait.

We were lucky to have our friend Jon Bennett take these photos for us, and he did such a great job capturing our family in a natural, warm, and festive way. If you live in the Chicagoland area and are looking for family photography, we highly recommend his services. He managed to make the whole experience feel easy, which is no small thing when kids, schedules, weather, and holiday energy are all involved.

Most impressively, he got these two crazies to sit still and smile. That alone deserves applause. Family photo sessions often require patience, humor, and the ability to work quickly before someone gets bored, distracted, hungry, or suddenly very committed to doing the opposite of what everyone else is doing. Somehow, he handled it beautifully and gave us pictures we will be happy to look back on for years.
He even managed to capture a genuinely sweet brotherly moment, which may be my favorite part of the whole shoot. Those little exchanges are the ones that matter most. They are the moments that remind you why you go through the effort of scheduling photos, choosing outfits, getting everyone ready, and hoping for the best. In the end, the best holiday photos are not about perfection. They are about love, connection, and the funny, imperfect people who make up your family.

So from our family to yours, Merry Christmas and happy holidays. I hope your season brings comfort, laughter, good food, and plenty of reasons to be grateful. Whether your celebration is calm and peaceful or loud and wonderfully chaotic, may it be filled with the people and traditions that make this time of year feel special.
